Gluten Free in Austin: Wu Chow

Happy Friday!!

Catching up from a crazy summer, and finally getting back into a routine. I have some amazing new restaurants to share that are dishing up delicious and safe, gluten free options!

In June I had the opportunity to spend a weekend of fitness and fun with 30 amazing women in Austin, TX. We boxed, did yoga, swam, ate yummy and healthy food, and came back rejuvenated! It was an amazing trip that I won’t forget. While we were there, we had the opportunity to taste a TON of dishes at Wu Chow.

Wu Chow markets itself as a farm to table Chinese restaurant. The food was fresh, there were a ton of options, and the trendy, but laid back decor of the restaurant fits the Austin vibe perfectly. Everything on the menu was gluten free and dairy free! We even had a separate tasting menu for the vegan girls that were with us.

Among the items we tried were a sweet corn and egg ribbon soup, Hunan style beef, & Wu Chow special fried rice. Everything was really flavorful.

One of my favorites was the spicy Sichuan fried chicken. It was perfectly crispy and packed some heat. And again, all gluten free!

They would bring out big dishes for the table to share, which was the best way to try a little bit of everything. The dry fried local green beans and Gong Bao chicken were two table favorites as well. Most of their dishes use organic and local items, so it’s not only great for you, but also for the local farmers. Definitely one to try if you are in the area!

Not only did I leave the weekend with a new favorite restaurant, but we also received a ton of fun goodies from sponsors. After finally making my way through the items, here are my faves that I would recommend:

  • Jilz Crackers– these were yummy multi-seed crackers that would work equally well with peanut butter or turkey and avocado. They are gluten free, paleo, and vegan.
  • Nutpods– The entire TIU DFW crew is officially obsessed!! It’s a dairy free, unsweetened, creamy alternative to milk or creamer in coffee. The french vanilla is my fave, but I have my eye on trying the pumpkin spice flavor this fall!
  • Coola Suncare: They have been a favorite brand on mine for a while. Their sunscreens smell heavenly, and everything is organic! You can buy either from their site, or on Amazon as well.

Hoping your weekend is filled with fun and relaxation!

Ashley
