Gluten-Free in Dallas: Unrefined Bakery GF Cupcakes

Loaded Monkey Cupcake

Ohh yeah…

It was time for a treat. I have been doing so well with eating healthy and working out that I definitely felt okay diving into this.

I am fortunate that Dallas not only has dedicated gluten free bakeries, but that I have one really close to my house. Personally, I was a huge fan of Tulu’s Gluten-Free Bakery, which recently left Dallas, only leaving it’s New York store. They made my wedding cake, and had the most delicious sugar cookies you could imagine. When they left I was super sad.

Fortunately, it made me branch out a bit and try another local favorite, Unrefined BakeryNot only do they have multiple locations around the Dallas area, but the mother/daughter baking duo both have Celiac Disease. The bakery is 100% gluten free and soy free. They also try to make most items corn, dairy, and egg free.

Unrefined Bakery Review

This trip I was particularly drawn to the cupcakes. I tried one called the Loaded Monkey: banana cake with chocolate chunks, cream cheese frosting, and peanut butter filling.

To say this cupcake was rich, would be an understatement. The cake was not as dense as many gluten-free products turn out to be. The frosting was creamy and super sweet.

I’ve always been more of a fan of the cake part than the icing part, but the cream cheese went really well with the banana cake.

Peanut Butter Filled Middle

With the peanut butter filled middle, this cupcake was way over the top! Really delicious, but way too sweet to eat the whole thing in one sitting. Luckily that meant I had dessert for later too!

They also sell breads, pizza crusts, cookies, muffins, food bars, paleo options, and they sell yummy coffee drinks to have with whatever baked good you pick up.  Definitely worth a trip here!

What is your favorite gluten-free dessert to splurge on??
