Battle of the Pumpkin Spice Latte: Starbucks vs Local

Happy First Day of Fall!

And guys…. there is a real cold front coming! It may currently be in the 90s (STILL!), but come Sunday we will have some nice cool weather. In preparation for actual fall temps, I decided to have a Pumpkin Spice Latte taste off!

First up: Starbucks

Now I should preface this challenge by saying that I’ve actually never been a huge fan of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. It’s overly sweet, the spices are too strong, and the hype surrounding it is ridiculous. That being said, with a few edits to my order, I have a slightly flavored latte that reminds me of fall treats.

For my alterations, I asked for non-fat milk, no whipped cream, only one pump of flavoring, and lite on the spices on top. The end result? Actually really delicious. There was just a hint of flavor that wasn’t overpowering. Plus the fact that the coffee looked really pretty =).

Next up: Local (White Rock Coffee)

I love the vibe of local coffee shops. It feels way friendlier and they are always more open to talking about what ingredients they put in their drinks. White Rock Coffee has been putting real pumpkin in their latte from the beginning, something Starbucks only started a couple years ago.

This one was a bit sweeter even though I asked for just a little bit of flavoring. Honestly, I think I liked them both equally. In the end, Starbucks is more convenient, but I always feel better supporting local businesses! So for that, I call a tie!

Hoping your first day of fall is crisp and full of pumpkin flavors!
